Rs 62 crore for Salman's 'Bodyguard'

Dabangg, that opened to an unprecedented release in September, has pushed Salman Khan on top of the charts.

The only other Khan who is higher than him at this point is Aamir (courtesy 3 Idiots). Naturally, now the market is watching every move (or should that read, every movie) that Salman is making, announcing or even suggesting.

His next release will be Anees Bazmee's Ready that is expected in April 2011. However, the first film to get the benefit of the Dabangg super success is his brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri's Bodyguard that has Salman and Kareena Kapoor in the lead.

The film is expected to go on the floors on January 16, and is expected to release on Eid (a Salman speciality) on August 29, 2011. Anil Ambani's company has reportedly paid Rs 62 crores for the rights of this film. Says a trade source, "Since Salman hit a purple patch with Dabangg, his movies are attracting huge prices." The market source also says that Bollywood that had decided not to acquire films for exorbitant prices is actually going back on its word.

"After the debacle of Kites and Raavan, you would have thought that people learned a lesson," the source says. "However, the market is currently looking good. And big hero films are back to being bought, sold and resold for some unheard of prices."
